For the first time, early next year, the Jamaica Blog Awards 2010 will honour blogging talent and potential in Jamaica.

Currently, the voting is still going on and you can still vote for your favourites in the categories Best Personal Blog, Best Technology Blog, Best New Blog, Best Food Blog, Best Overseas Jamaican Blog, Bloggers’ Choice Award, Readers’ Choice Award, Top Blog Post for 2010, Best Twitter Micro Blogger, Best Music Blog, Best Entertainment Blog, Best Company Blog, Best Beauty and Fashion Blog, Best Lifestyle Blog, Best Photographic/Art Blog.

When it comes to our favourite Jamaican blogs, we definitely have to mention two of our friends’:

Kingstonstyle – a street fashion blog from Kingston, Jamaica, that really deserves that name as it doesn’t just show off hipster boys and girls in too tight pants and with too big glasses – like its European counterparts often do – but really puts people from the streets on display. Place your vote for Kingstonstyle now!

The Phoenix in a Gas House – Eve Mann’s smart and entertaining look at the world. A world full of Bhutus in Benzes, bleaching lords, chi chi badmen, arts, water in the streets, music and much more. Place your vote for The Phoenix in a Gas House now!

Another favourite of ours, Ross Sheil’s blog, was not nominated but Ross came up with an interesting fictive list of the top five bloggers in Jamaica, were they to actually blog:

  1. LA Lewis for his contributions to the English language, the arts and just being himself.
  2. Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke or any whistle-blowing government employee.
  3. Vybz Kartel replied in an interview once that he could have been a journalist. Plus it’s not like he’d be short of anything to say and the words to say it with. Tanya Stephens for similar qualities also.
  4. Someone who does a challenging job society often takes for granted or we think we know all about i.e. school teacher, police officer, nurse (definitely Edith Allwood-Anderson) etc.
  5. A young gang member might give us an insight into what is going on in young people’s heads and the wasted potential out there.

What are your favourite Jamaican blogs?
