This week’s Federation Invasion is all about classic rude boy dancehall (just look at homey’s shirt).
John John and 21st / Hapilos Digital Distribution have joined forces to digitally release 5 albums full of wickedness from the likes of Bounty Killer, Mad Cobra, Terry Ganzie, Ricky General, Junior Cat and more.
Tune into the mix to learn some dancehall history or just to remember this golden era of dancehall, then go support the music and download it… Legally!

As we keep on counting down the days to Notting Hill Carnival 2010, The Heatwave and Plan B provide us with the ultimate soundtrack for the days left:
Rinse FM’s finest The Heatwave bring you a special carnival mix ahead of their Bank Holiday showdown with Deadly Rhythm on Sunday 29th August. It showcases The Heatwave’s distinctive Funky Bashment style taking in everything from Ms Dynamite to Mavado and is definately essential carnival listening.
While today, Nikes and Clarks often are international rudeboys’ footwear of choice, especially in the 70s and 80s, many Reggae, Punk and Ska aficionados skanked in Doc Martens boots. Actually, many Punks and Ska people rock »Docs« up until today.

After hours spent crunching real tape loops and experimenting with the dubbing to get exactly the right »stoned, spacey feel«, the production on the track sparkles (via Dr. Martens).
Even more than the track itself, I enjoy the clip to it which was directed by none other than Don Letts:
It was an interesting project as I’d never done animation before and I felt like challenge. I’m usually very »hands on« my projects but with this it was a case of »hands off« and »heads on«. In other words I had to convey what was in my mind to the animators and let them do their thing (via Dr. Martens).
