After Puma has shown us quite often (last try: teaming up with Riddim-magazine) how shitty Jamaica-”inspired” sneakers can actually look like, this time Adidas tries to be hip doing the Reg-gay together with Tuff Gong Studios. Ok, they´re (of course) better than their German competitors (and the shoes fit Ziggy´s H&M-shirty at least), but hey – couldn´t you come up with something more sophisticated? Or do you really wanna make shoes for this target-group only?
Wonder who´s next putting lions and red-gold-and-green und trainers. Converse maybe? At least that would be a brand that actually is worn in JA nowadays…

Swedish fashion cheapsters H&M teamed up with a bunch of international artists, designers and musicians to launch a “Fashion Against Aids” line to raise the awareness about HIV:
The artists taking part in “Fashion Against AIDS†are Rihanna, Chicks on Speed, Good Charlotte, Henrik Vibskov, Jade Jagger, Justice, Katharine Hamnett, My Chemical Romance, Rufus Wainwright, Scissor Sisters, The Cardigans, Tiga, Timbaland and Ziggy Marley.
Ziggy Marley – I hope that means that some of the money (25% of the proceeds of the collection will go to prevention projects) will arrive in Jamaica, too.
And even though this is for a really good cause and anything raising dough for it is fine, I wish Ziggy had done some more innovative stuff than just writing some words in red-green-and-yellow using a stencil font …
(I wonder why they didn´t use the original design from the shirt he´s actually wearing on the picture for the collection. That looks pretty alrite – in grayscale at least. But maybe they gonna use it for the male shirts only … We´ll see when the stuff drops in February.)

“People say, ‘It’s the next best thing to having a system in a car.’ But it’s better because you don’t even have to roll down the windows.”
I have to admit that recently I havent found the time to check the Times´ website regularly myself. Thanks god, there are enough people out there who do a good job in selecting the must reads. There are two of them this week.
One is “Bicycles That Carry Powerful Beats, and Even a Rider or Two” by Corey Kilgannon and the other one is “Setting the Beat, and the Style” by Ruth la Ferla.
The first article deals with youngsters that turned their bikes into mobile discothèques. Most of them have a Caribbean background and carry their homeland tradition of looking at music as a common good of the people for the people to the streets of Richmond Hills, Queens, NYC.
“Stephan Sonnylal, 17, worked on his yellow Mongoose motocross bicycle, bearing a 200-pound system, which features a 50-CD changer bearing a map of Trinidad. It puts out 3,000 watts of power and has three 10-inch speakers, a bank of midrange speakers and two tweeters. It cost $800, he said.”
Read the whole article, look at more pictures and a short video here. (via De-Bug /BoingBoing)
The second article is on female DJs and their role of being the modern fashion icons. Read the rest of "The NY Times on Boomboxes on Bikes and Female DJs as Fashion Icons" →

Highsnobiety says so and Freshness Mag does, too. And ye, it´s true: Karmaloop.tv – the new TV channel of the groundbreaking online streetwear platform Karmaloop, launched this week. It´s quite funny to watch if you don´t know what else to do with yourself. My favourite pieces so far are the episodes starring the boss of L-R-G (wearing an unbelievably stupid looking golden teddybear chain, see above) and the women behind “Married to the Mob” (who actually admits that all ideas for her most successful pieces either came from “one of her favourite artists” or her “witty” 17-yr-old muse).

Just when you thought blogs are the new mags, Woofah – an UK-based, “independently produced fanzine covering dancehall, grime, dubstep, dub, bashment, roots and all points between” – hits you like a heavy bassline transformed into print. Number 1 was sold out in no time, #2 is to follow late 2007/early 2008. It will feature articles on dubstep MCs, a tribute to Ninjaman and an in review of the official DVD of the film Babylon. Keep your eyes and ears open and check the web-journals of some of Woohaa´s contributors in the meantime: Woebot, Shards, Fragments & Totems, Idle Thoughts for Idle Moments and Deeptime.
