This week’s Tropical Heat podcast was put together by Joscha Hoffman (Silly Walks Disco).
Silly Walks Discotheque is the follow up project of the 1991 founded german Reggae soundsystem Silly Walks Movement and has, with founding member Oliver Schrader and MC Joscha still 2/3 of the known crew on the road, been bringing all kind of caribbean flavours to the massives.
Silly Walks have been major influentials for us loving Reggae music and Jamaica as much as we do today. Back in 1995, they were featured on German TV show “Lost in Music” talking about their boat trips from Hamburg to London to buy the latest Jamaican 45s – at a time when we hardly knew anything about Dub, Reggae, and Dancehall.
It’s really a pleasure to still see Oliver and Joscha doing their thing today and keeping up with the latest trends in Jamaican music.
Find the tracklist for Joschua’s “Dancehall 2010″ mix on the byte.fm website, check the Tropical Heat blog for the complete Tropical Heat archive, and subscribe to the Tropical Heat podcast here.

In today’s edition of the Tropical Heat podcast, King Kong Disko a.k.a. The Notorious A.P.E. present two hours of Raggamuffin Rap and Rap Classics. Here’s what they go to say about their mix:
In the first half of the show, we deliver a mix of 90′s raggahiphop tracks. No cheap American refixes of Dancehall standards but original combination tunes of like-minded MCs and deejays. Many of them slept-ons taken from albums which you won’t normally hear at your regular Dancehall or HipHop parties.
In the second half, we’re turning back the hands of time even a little more and have a look at the 80′s rap scene. That Dancehall and Hip Hop have become what they are today is due to legendary labels like Def Jam, Tommy Boy, profile, or Jive, amongst others.
Those of you who are into sample digging should really have some fun with this one – enjoy!

It’s already Thursday again – time to introduce you to Boss HiFi who are also part of the mighty Tropical Heat collective with which we started a collaborative weekly podcast series just 7 days ago.
The first hour of today’s Tropical Heat podcast – mixed by Tigger – pays tribute to Nearlin ‘Lyn’ Taitt, the Trinidadian guitarist who has died of cancer aged 75 recently and who was one of the most important contributors to the Jamaican rock-steady style.
The only word we’d like to lose about hour two – mixed by Jr. Pilot – is “Raggamuffin”.
Enjoy some classic material!
