People! Today is the day: we’re kicking off the new seen. podcast series “Tropical Heat” (which is bitterly needed these days in good cold Europe).
I talked about the details a few days ago already, so let’s go straight to the music.
This week, VG and Bommitommi from Helsinki’s finest Komposti Sound mixed two hours of snow-melting top tunes. The first hour features lovers & culture tunes selected by VG and the second part is all about brand new dancehall music mixed by Bommitommi who just got back from Jamaica.
Check the tracklist over at Byte.fm.
You can stream and download the two mixes right here or you can be smart and subscribe to the Tropical Heat podcast right away and receive your weekly dose of
Afro-Caribbean music in the mix, from 50’s Calypso to the latest daggering tunes.
straight to the MP3 device of your choice.

via American Apparel
American’s Apparel approach to marketing is as primitive and sexist as most of today’s Dancehall music. It’s entertaining still the same way. Currently, AA is searching for the “Best Bottom in the World” or as they also put it: They’re
looking for a brand new bum to be the new “face” for their always expanding intimates and briefs lines.
Here’s a brand new Busy Signal track to listen to while browsing the submissions (via The Fader): “Bare Gal”.

Believe or not, FIRST Magazine – Jamaica’s number one magazin – is back online.
I assisted (yea, blame them Kingstonians for the new seen. site still being under construction) in transforming the site from a very magazine-ish look to a regular blog layout and I’m happy to see the FIRST crew putting out Jamaica-related hi-quality content on a regular basis again.
For their launch, they e.g. spotted former Miss Jamaica Cindy Wright looking good wearing Agent Provocateur’s Spring 2010 collection on her hips and bust as well as a pretty big snake on her shoulders.
They also added a nice Google maps feature to their site which allows you to browse FIRST’s stories by location, and they marked their spots on Facebook and Twitter.
PS: If you know anybody at either Heineken, Converse, Red Stripe, Vice, The Fader or the JTB (just to name a few) – tell the people to finally pour some money on the people behind the mag. There’s still no better on-ground media outlet reflecting upon modern life in Jamaica and the Jamaican diaspora. Team seen. and Vanity Fair say so.

Man, I wish I was in Berlin on Thursday. Our friend Daniel Haaksman will be HEATing up things at club WMF for the third time and he pulled in yet another seen. comrade – that uber-talented Swiss kid that goes by the name Wildlife! – to serve the bass-soaked bangers.
The HEAT featuring Daniel Haaksman and Wildlife! is on from 11pm on February 11th, and for only 6 EUR you can be part of the party.
PS: We are very proud to announce that from March on, there will be a special seen. floor at the HEAT parties at WMF. Tim Turbo, Danny Scrilla and Marflix One will host the bitch and will bring you the best in dubstep and island music. Like Daniel Haaksman likes to put it: Man Rec X seen., Rio X Kingston & Berlin X Muc – a match made in heaven! Nothing to add here, prost!.

We’re very happy to announce that starting this week Thursday, we’re going to kick off a new weekly seen. podcast series.
For this podcast, we joined forces with legendary Silly Walks Discotheque from Hamburg (Germany), “Finland’s Finest”, Komposti Sound from Helsinki, Boss Hifi from Zurich, Signal From Mountain from Flims (CH) & Our Sound, also from Switzerland, as well as King Kong Disko & Selekta Mathias (Lionhearts Crew) from Hamburg again. These are the people behind one of our favourite DJ shows on German radio – “Tropical Heat” on Byte FM.
Tropical Heat means “two hours of Afro-Caribbean music in the mix, from 50′s Calypso to the latest daggering tunes – with a main focus on Reggae and related genres.”
You can listen to Tropical Heat on Byte.fm each and every Wednesday from 0-2 am.
From Thursday on, we will offer the full shows as handy seen. podcasts in addition, to make these great mixes available on demand on a regular basis.
PS: In the meantime, check the Tropical Heat archive and get adjusted to rising temperatures.
